The client
Law Business Research (LBR) is a leading provider of business information, legal analysis tools, and networking for the global legal markets.
LBR is a business with a number of high-value digital products at its heart: in-depth information and intelligence products, intuitive customer engagement platforms, and market-leading networking solutions.
The challenge
Two of LBRs leading subscription service products: IAM and World Trademark Review required support. Both products are built on an AWS Beanstalk Environment, with a PHP based Content Management System.
LBR was planning a cloud-first approach to the management of these products. They required an expert AWS partner who could help them to manage the increasing burden that DevOps was posing to their development team.
At the same time, LBR found itself in a position familiar to many digital businesses where client expectation requires 24/7 availability for their products. The risk otherwise is downtime impacting customers, or the development of new features and functionality slowing and losing any advantage in a competitive marketplace. They required a support team who could step in once the current team, who is based in one location and works during normal business hours, is out of the office.
The solution
Just After Midnight is a proactive provider that can grow with LBRs needs. Our team is the internal DevOps consultant (and implementer where needed) for LBR products, working to optimise what is stored in the cloud and ensure that further cloud migration is done in the right way.
Our team immediately identified a backlog of DevOps tasks which was required by the client to ensure their set up was efficient. A period of 20 DevOps dedicated days was agreed on for our DevOps team to complete this project.
These tasks included:
- An AWS architecture review and resulting recommendations
- Exploring options for auto-scaling on Elastic Beanstalk
- Implementing health checks set to alert before a situation becomes critical
- Investigating resizing the DBs
As an AWS Advanced Partner with years of experience working on AWS DevOps projects, we are in the perfect position to identify and implement positive changes to LBRs current setup, making it more secure, efficient, and cost-effective.
In addition to this, we provide priority 24/7 support to LBR product production environments, removing the risk of their team being awoken at night.
Results
- AWS infrastructure and hosting of both the World Trademark Review and IAM products are supported 24/7 by an expert team
- JAM DevOps team is working with LBR to implement processes to improve the efficiency of their products
- LBR development team has more time to focus on delivering the features and functionality being demanded by the market whilst improving reliability
