We checked in with our Singapore team to find out how they are feeling about the ‘new normal’ workplace.

The pandemic has changed a lot of things in Singapore – and teams everywhere have had to adapt to the new normal. With the worst of it (hopefully) behind us, we thought we’d check in with a few members of the team to see how they’ve adapted to all the changes and how they feel about being back.

We spoke with Anjali (Customer Success) and Rob (DevOps Engineer) to find out about their biggest impacts from the pandemic on their working life.

L-R: Rob, Anjali

Managing and monitoring client’s applications and infrastructure at home

As a customer success manager, Anjali’s job is to work with our team of engineers to get issues resolved fast and communicate with our clients every step of the way. But stuck at home, we wondered if she missed being able to speak to the team face to face and being in the thick of the action.

Anjali told us that managing incidents really hadn’t changed at all, ‘With all our systems being in the cloud, I had access to everything I would in office.’ [NED – Add couple of points here about tech enabled and systems we have in place regardless of pandemic. ]

What was crucial for Anjali and Just After Midnight was that incidents could be resolved just as fast and effectively from home as they could before – and the technology we had in place meant nothing really changed for her.

“Being a cloud native and a global business, working remotely is second nature to us. My number one priority is making sure the team is comfortable and that they feel supported and part of a team wherever they are! Freddie Heygate, CEO of Asia

Maintaining our company culture

One of our leading DevOps engineers, Rob’s biggest impact was missing out on face-to-face time with clients and the team in general.  Its hard to replicate the feel and atmosphere of being together virtually. He also missed things he previously took for-granted, like simply being able to attend industry events like Cloud Expo.

Its been really important to us to bring all our Just After Midnight global team together regularly. We’ve chatted daily on virtual stand ups, discussing projects and ongoing work – and of course the occasional cameo by a furry friend!

But it wasn’t just about work {Ned add some points around virtual team building stuff like the christmas do, we should also talk about how we’ve also organized virtual events for our community of clients – recognizing the importance of connecting with people in other ways. ]

Will we ever go back to what was considered normal?

Probably not, and that’s one of the positives we can take out of this pandemic. As a company we have always given great value to having that flexibility to work from anywhere, whether in one of our offices across the globe or completely remotely. We believe that when people are happy doing what they do and have the work life balance and flexibility, they deliver more and stick around.

In 2021, we’re expecting to grow worldwide, and we’re currently on the lookout for great people to jump on board. We’re excited about new team members joining from across the globe and growing our talent base.

We’re also looking at creating more way of making sure that as the team grows and is likely to be more dispersed, that we have the right structures and touch points in place to make sure that we still maintain the Just After Midnight culture we have been able to build to date.
